Flowers in the Window – Johor Bahru JB Garden-themed Cafe

Travelling overseas always make me happy and a trip to Johor Bahru calls for a day of endless cafe hopping around the area.

For those who love OOTDs and food photography, Flowers in the Window has exactly the kind of instagram-worthy spaces and asian-fusion mains you might want to check out – located in 9 Jalan Dhoby, Malaysia.

Before our actual food came, we already had a slice of Rose Pistachio Cake as recommended by the staff. Those rose buds on top seemed real enough not to be eaten. As for the cake, the texture was fluffy but a tad dry. The saving grace was perhaps the berries jam in between the two layers of sponge cake which made it easier to swallow. That aside, it was a pretty slice.

We had two dishes from their Special Menu.

The Japanese Seafood Brunch RM26 got us hooked at first glance. It was definitely one of the most vibrant and appealing breakfast dish I had this year.

The Japanese Seafood Brunch was like an open-faced rice burger, filled with an overflowing of Salmon Sashimi, Crab Meat Stick, Salmon Roe, Avocado chunks and sprinkled with Roasted Seaweed and Edamame.

As if that wasn’t enough, there were a side of perfectly boiled soft Eggs, Ginger and Cucumber Pickles and Wasabi Pesto Sauce.

It reminded me of a deconstructed rice bowl with many ongoing flavours within. The dish left us a bit confused in taste. But for less than SGD 10, this might be worth a try.

Ever had a Cauliflower-centric breakfast?

The Cauliflower Super Breakfast RM24 lived up to its name with a bed of chunky Roasted Cauliflower served alongside your usual breakfast items. Stack above it were Scrambled Egg, Turkey Ham, lots of Spinach, Grilled Brie Cheese and Sweet Potatoes Puree, all sandwiched between an English Muffin.

The cauliflowers were delicious. They were lightly crisp on the outside while moist and soft within. In fact, we polished the plate clean.

From the normal menu, there are interesting mains such as Soda Battered Fish & Chips RM29, Thai Salmon Burger in Charcoal Bun RM28 and Hainanese Beef/Chicken Rice Noodles RM24.

My chicken-loving friend decided to go for the Whole Chicken Leg with Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Vegetables and Oregano gravy RM24. Chicken was tender and juicy while the gravy was thick and rich in taste. It was a hearty dish if you are looking for something substantial.

Flowers in the Window has a range of drinks with unique combination such as the Rockmelon Milk RM16.90, Lavender Lemonade RM15.90 and Pina Colada & Green Barley RM 15.90 (below).

Passionfruit Lemonade RM16.90

Flowers in the Window is a very nice place to chill at, surrounded by lush greeneries within its compounds. It was rather crowded on a weekday noon when we patronised. Food was alright and needless said, the ambience made up for our time there.
