Watanabe Coffee presents Gateau Chocolat Cake from Ken’s Cafe Tokyo, so popular that it requires a 3-month wait in Japan

Would you wait three months for a chocolate cake? Maybe not just any chocolate cake. In Japan, a Gateau Chocolat cake (280g) requires a waiting time of three months! These cakes are produced exclusively in Ken’s Cafe, Tokyo. But for the first time in Singapore, we’re so lucky that these limited delicacies will be handmade, one by one, in the kitchen of Singapore’s Watanabe Coffee by their very own chef who had studied under Chef Kenji Ujiie, the founder of Ken’s Cafe Tokyo. Hooray!

Starting on from 1 Dec 2018, Watanabe Coffee will be selling The Gateau Chocolat Cakes in a limited quantity of 20 cakes per day for both dine-in and takeaway.

Three different variety of textures, sensations, and melt-in-the-mouth goodness can be explored
with The Gateau Chocolat Specialty cakes – as Terrine Chocolat at room temperature, Chocolate Ganache when chilled in the refrigerator and Fondant Chocolat when heated slightly in the microwave. We loved all three, but our favourite was the room temperature “Terrine Chocolat”.

Moist, soft, rich, perfect texture! This is the closest we’ve tasted to chocolate cake perfection!

If you choose to dine in at Watanabe Coffee, you’d be presented with a lovely slice of the Gateau Chocolat cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some berries, along with roasted nuts and a dash of cocoa powder sprinkled at the side! It’s $8++ after service charge and GST.

If you’re doing a takeaway, your cake will be placed in a box! Elegant, tasteful, and always great for gifting too! It’s priced at $48.15.

Aside from cakes and such, Watanabe Coffee also serves great coffee, as its name suggests. We tried the Dutch-Style Cold Brewed (R-$5.80 L-$6.80), served with a small jar of liquid sugar.

What’s so special about the Dutch-Style Cold Brew? With every 8 hours of brewing, only 10 cups of this coffee can be made. It uses a special kind of extraction method that does not require heating!

The In-House Blend Coffee (R-$6.80, L-$7.80) tastes wonderful. Authentic, deep, and rich – all the ingredients for a great cup of coffee for true coffee lovers everywhere. We didn’t add any sugar or milk and it was still a top-notch brew, right down to its high-quality beans!

Get your slice of Gateau Chocolate Specialty cake! They’re limited for a very good reason – truly one of those chocolate cakes that are life-changing.
