Tokidon – Japanese Wagyu Beef Bowls from $11.90, with Truffle, Foie Gras, Omelette & more!

CBD folk will be stoked to know there’s a new joint whipping up Japanese bowls at affordable prices. Tucked away in the basement of Hong Leong Building, Tokidon is the brainchild of the same team behind Kabuke – and a more price friendly version for the budget conscious.

Five variations of rice bowls are available for the picking during lunch, while dinner crowds can choose from a truncated menu of four bowls.

The latest addition to Tokidon’s menu, Cha Soba Salmon $16.90, contains delicious, slurp-worthy cold soba topped with sashimi-grade salmon that was crispy and well marinated with teriyaki sauce.

Beef lovers are definitely spoilt for choice at Tokidon.

The Wagyu Sukiyaki Don $17.90 is a deceptively simple but oh-so-indulgent bowl of sliced wagyu short plate, onsen egg, shimeji mushroom, sautéed onions, and house blend sukiyaki sauce. Plus points for how delicately sliced the beef was and the slightly sweet tinge to it!

Most price-friendly is the Gyu Don $11.90 – a simple bowl of stripling, onsen egg, cured kelp, and garlic soy. A hearty bowl, nonetheless.

For those in the mood to indulge, upgrade to the Truffle Wagyu Don $23.90 for some serious savoury sensations as you bite into the wagyu striploin drizzled with house blend truffle soy.

Across all bowls, you can even swap the base for free for cha soba, salad or Japanese rice.

Complete your meal with an extra $4.90, for a canned drink and a Wagyu Suji Miso Soup or Spicy Corn Cup too!

Similar to their Telok Ayer counterpart, add ons are available: teriyaki marinated foie gras, ikura shoyuzuke (salmon roe in shoyu), and Japanese omelette, which compliment the rice and soba bowls perfectly.

The add-on of the foie gras, for one, was incredibly rich, and definitely listed as one of my guilty pleasures, while the Japanese omelette exudes such sweetness that was best savoured last as a dessert!

For Western leaning palates, Wagyu Beef Sliders $12.90 and Wagyu Bolognese Toast $9.90 add a comforting, wholesome touch to any meal.

If you’re still feeling peckish after that, Tokidon also whips up some decent sides, namely the Ebi Fried Skewer and Tori Karaage Skewer with Yuzu Mayo.

Good news for diners heading down for an after work tipple: order 5 cans of sake from Tokidon’s curated menu, and enjoy free flow Tori Karaage from 4 – 5pm!

Merry with Japanese canned drinks (from $2.90) and cup sakes $11.90 carefully selected by Kabuke’s in- house sake sommelier, Keiji Heng.

With the weather and humidity in Singapore dialling up a notch, Tokidon makes a perfect place to escape to for a quick drink or a full meal, while picking up a thing or two about Japanese beef!
