The Hideout at District 20 for Beers, Food, Pools & Darts in Marymount

With the weather in Singapore flipping faster than pancakes, you need a few constants in life. The Hideout at District 20, which opened its doors on Jalan Pemimpin not too long ago, is one of those.

Consisting of two levels, the lower for F&B and live performances, and the upper level for pool and darts, The Hideout might be easy to miss to the undiscerning eye, thanks to the heavy, nondescript door that fronts its premises.

What it lacks in ostentatiousness, it makes up for in a very extensive menu, consisting of burgers, bar bites, meats, pasta, and Japanese bento boxes (more on that later).

Inside, The Hideout rocks a retro vibe, with quaintly decorated arm chairs and leather couches scattered throughout. Pro tip if you want to capture a decent, well lit flatly of your meal: take a seat by the window, where the tables and chairs are elevated to give you some height above the rest!

For hungry groups, the Sausage Platter ($28), comprising 4 types of sausages, should keep diners satisfied before the main course. Try and spot the different flavours of Chicken Mushroom, Veal Bratwurst, Pork Chorizo and Mini Pork, served with a tangy side of Sauerkraut and Black Pepper Sauce.

Meat lovers can rejoice at the Aglio Olio ($9.90), which boasts generous servings of smoked duck atop mushroom and bacon. I personally enjoyed the extra kick from the garlic, olive oil and ground pepper!

Interestingly, Japanese dishes like the Saba Shioyaki Bento ($11.90) have also made their way into The Hideout’s menu. While the Grilled Mackerel and Gyoza were not as outstanding compared to the other dishes we tried, it’s still a nice addition for Asian-inclined palates.

Of course, it’s not surprising that some of these Asian flavours could be found in The Hideout’s other offerings. The Pork Knuckle ($28), for one, is prepared with miso, while served with the usual potato wedges, gherkin, honey mustard seed sauce and red wine sauce. Perfect for pairing with a beer or two!

Overall, our meal at The Hideout was a pretty relaxed one. If you’re looking for the perfect hideout for beer, games, and food, this cosy place is the one for you.
