Sugar Toast 初荟糖先生 – Thick Handmade Colourful Toast from China opens at Wisma Atria

Sugar Toast 初荟糖先生 opens today (11 Nov) at basement one of Wisma Atria. Founded in 2017, Sugar Toast now has over 130 outlets in China and one in Malaysia, and is all about unique flavours and a whimsical look. Their signature thick toasts are all painstakingly handmade for up to four hours, and easily recognisable by their cross-section, a result of intricate braiding of the bread dough during the kneading process.

Much thought has also been put into the packaging. Besides retaining the familiar outlook of the paper bag, one side of the bag now includes an image of Singapore’s landmark too.

Sugar Toast will be offering fourteen varieties of toast and one Cheese Crown $10.90. Each loaf is priced from $6.90 onwards, weighs about 300g and are pre-sliced into five 2cm thick pieces.

The thick toasts are buttery, chewy and come in different flavours like Original, Purple Sweet Potato, Matcha, Dragonfruit and more.

They are made with natural colouring, i.e. the Purple Sweet Potato Toast $7.90 is made with purple potato puree; the Dragon Fruit Walnut Toast $7.90 is made with red dragon fruit pulp.

I quite enjoy the Rainbow Cranberry Toast $7.90 which resembles a colourful marble bread, comprising of Original, Matcha and Dragonfruit flavours as seen from the three different swirls on the bread. There are also dried cranberries within the folds which lend an extra sweetness and texture to the overall taste.

The Purple Sweet Potato Toast has a light creamy sweetness to it. Meanwhile, I find that the White Chocolate Matcha Toast $7.90, made from smooth white chocolate and premium matcha, could be stronger in flavour.

Another interesting combination you can find at Sugar Toast is the Salted Cheese Toast $7.90, infused with cream cheese cubes and Himalayan salt.
