Plate at Carlton City Hotel – New A La Carte Menu with Lobster Hokkien Noodles & Durian Crème Brûlée

Plate restaurant at Carlton City Hotel has got something new up your palate. Introducing a myriad of new dishes to the international menu, Executive Chef Fong Chee Chung is ready to feed your bellies from dainty appetisers to western burgers, hearty meats and comforting Asian favourites.

In light of the new offers, UOB Cardholders can enjoy an exclusive promotion of 1-for-1 à la carte food items at Plate (from $8++ per dish) between Sundays to Wednesdays, 6.30PM to 10PM. Head on down from 15 April to 14 July 2019 for this!

We tried the Smoked Salmon Bruschetta $16 that came with an absolutely divine-tasting drill cream and cheese spread on toast. The Mediterranean Seared Duck $14 featured the slice of duck breast garnished with chopped tomatoes, artichokes, onions and pickled cucumber. It was a firm slice, yet tasty on its own.

Plate’s Signature Wagyu Beef Burger $29 uses a 200g patty with a sunny-side-up and melted American cheese slathered over. Just underneath was the inviting piece of streaky bacon layered on sliced gherkins, tomatoes and lettuce. Fries on the side were fleshy and generous.

Almost equally priced is the Barbecued Pork Spare Ribs $28 with three lovely components – the pork spare ribs glazed in Gremolata sauce, fried sweet potato fries and super tangy purple cabbage slaw. The fries were surprisingly addictive, given that I ain’t a huge fan of sweet potato.

Something visually new is the Prawn & Chorizo Chimichurri $30 served on a cheese flatbread. I would have liked for a thicker base that could soak up some of those flavoursome sauce, nonetheless. On it were three jumbo prawns and two thick chorizo draped in sweet and refreshing mango salsa.

Our local Hokkien mee gets an upgrade with an additional Boston lobster, nicely sprawled across the plate.

The Lobster Hokkien Noodles $56 presents the braised Chinese yellow noodles accompanied with hidden gems of roast pork and three scrumptious, crunchy prawns. The lobster meat, however, could be more tender.

For a classic portion of Hokkien mee, you can still get it at $21.

Vermicelli Soup with Crab Claw $22 is another favourite of mine with piping hot crab meat-and-egg broth piled with lots of ingredients such as the Sweet potato vermicelli, tender crab claw meats and fish cake. It reminded me of hor fan but with a different kind of noodles. The soup was comforting yet not overpowering, even with the little egg bits swirled within.

There is also the Seafood ‘Hor Fun’ Noodles In Clay Pot $18 on the menu that looks mouth-watering.

Leave some stomach space for desserts like the beautifully plated Apple-Pistachio Fruit Flan $12, Mango Rice Pudding with Coconut Sorbet & Gula Melaka Sauce $10 and Durian Crème Brûlée with Choux Pastry $12 where the later deserves a noteworthy mention for its creamy luscious texture of durian and custard.
