Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant presents ‘OISHI Flavours of Japan’ Set Menu & Dim Sum, featuring Japanese Oysters, Sea Urchin, Pumpkin & more

Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant welcomes the Cherry Blossom season with exquisite OISHI Flavours of Japan creations. Indulge in Japanese-inspired cantonese set menu and dim sum available from 2 March to 30 April 2020.

The dim sum will be made exclusive to the Peach Garden outlets at Thomson Plaza and Hotel Miramar. Zapped up with fine Japanese ingredients like the sea urchin, amaebi and Japanese oyster, these luxurious treats are nothing short of delight.

Relish in the Steamed Siew Mai with Sea Urchin $8.80, a luxe and creamy finish to the classic dumpling we are so used to having. Additionally, the Steamed Xiao Long Bao with A5 Wagyu Beef $8.80 gets an uplift with quality beef filling surrounded in tasty hot broth while the Steamed Dumpling with Japanese Geoduck Clam $7.80 features the traditional har gow (prawn dumpling) wrapped in spinach dotted dumpling skin and topped with slices of the highly priced clam.

The 6-course Set Menu ($68 per person, available at all Peach garden outlets) introduces more Japanese produce such as the beloved Japanese pumpkin and sweet potato, Surimi-men (fish paste noodle which is not commonly seen in Singapore) and Shirobuta pork into the following dishes.

The showstopper of the meal is the Pan-fried Shirobuta Pork ($28 for a la carte order), served with your choice of Chef’s Special Mala Sauce, Black Pepper Sauce or Mushroom Sauce. The loin cut, though simply marinated with salt and pepper, is wondrously tasty, well-marbled and tender. On the other hand, the sauces add an extra taste profile which I thought we could do without.

The Poached Surimi-men with Japanese Oyster is a unique dish where the surimi-men surprises with its beautiful pink and springy texture. It is like biting into fish ball but in strips form, and still feeling really satisfied at how you can have a bite of the noodle and a sip of the comforting superior broth that reminds me so much of collagen altogether. Similarly, the huge Japanese oysters deliver a good punch with their plump juicy meat.

The other courses on the menu consist of the Chilled Sea Urchin Tofu ($22 for a la carte order), inspired by the local-favourite century egg and tofu, and garnished with a sheet of dried baby sardine, Double-boiled Superior Blue Shark’s Fin Soup with Matsutake Mushroom and Pan-fried Fillet of Amadai.

At the end of the six-course meal, the Sweet temptation, is a tempting Yuan-Yang bowl of creamy pumpkin and Pandan-infused sweet potato paste, served with a decadent flower-shaped pastry and a mandarin peel-accented red bean paste as the flower bud.

Meanwhile, treat your senses to the theatric presentation of the Flaming Seafood Fried Rice in Whole Japanese Pumpkin $28 to be set alight at the table. The Japanese pumpkin is carved hollow and filled with a mixture of prawns, scallops, sweet pumpkin cubes and rice, all covered underneath a layer of thick gooey cheese.
