J’s Gate Dining at Lot 10 Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur is a dining enclave for Japanese food lovers. Tucked away in level four of the mall, J’s Gate Dining is housed to 16 Japanese stall and food chains selling ramen, Japanese hotpot, rice bowls, ice cream and more.
Osaka Kitchen might ring a bell among some of us. It is popular for teppanyaki and there’s another outlet in Singapore, located within Japan Food Town at Wisma Atria. I had tried the omakase once three years back and marvelled over their impressive Ohmi wagyu beef teppanyaki.
In KL, I decided to go for the Okonomi-yaki Course RM45. Some of the dishes were nostalgically familiar.
I started with an Appetiser of green salad dressed in a citrusy sauce.
Don’t judge the Seared Specialty Sesame Tofu by its looks for the innocent darling delivered a whack of nutty fragrance embedded within the soft chewy texture that’s as wobbly as jelly.
The Japanese Omelet with Pork Belly was a golden pocket generously stuffed with bits of pork belly, moist and ready to explode. Best eaten hot straight off the teppan.
Another of my favourite was the Grilled Avocado with Melted Cheese. I liked that the cheese blanketed the grilled avocado, contrasting it against the salty and crispy thin pancake.
Moving on to the mains, the Okonomiyaki made its appearance as one hearty piece, drizzled in mayonnaise and Okonomiyaki sauce, while topped with fluffy bonito flakes. There was a good mix of cabbage with the rest of the ingredients. It was delightly tasty but very filling.
The only thing is I wish that they could serve the food course by course instead of delivering the next before I am done with the previous. Nonetheless, the food was good overall as expected and the service was cordial and attentive. The restaurant was almost 90 per cent full during the Thursday night I was there too.
