Ola Beach Club in Sentosa: Hawaiian Feast and Cocktail Vibes

Dining along the sandy beach overlooking the ocean-blue sea was full of Hawaiian vibes and the feels you get from the momentary isolation away the bustling city life became irreplaceable. A short walk from Beach Station in Sentosa would lead you to a mural-painted building which housed Ola Beach Club.

Facing a row of palm trees with the deep crystal clear ocean sparkling under the sunlight was a sight to behold. Dive under one of those beach umbrellas or sit by the pool if you prefer a breezier and cooling venue to sip on cocktails while nibbling some food.

Officially launched on 26th November 2016,  Ola Beach Club is one-of-a-kind Hawaiian-themed hub in Singapore to offer water sports such as the Jet Pack and Jetblade for the fun and daring enthusiasts. Be prepared to be propelled to the air while strapped to devices under world-class safety standards.

Let your body relax and recharged after a day out on the beach by paying a visit to Ola Beach Club just within the vicinity. What’s coming to a beach without having any of their signature cocktails to freshen up your mind for the upcoming meal. Specially gone through the hands of renowned mixologist Alex Ng, indulge in eight creations of his dedicated for Ola Beach Club.

I would love to take the place of the rubber ducky in this Melemele Tiki ($22) to swim in the ocean of rum, cream, coconut juice and homemade banana puree. A smooth blend of creaminess in which I could taste the hints of coconut juice amidst the sweet flavours of banana.

What swept us (and me) right off the hook was the grand appearance of the Uliuli Tiki ($22), shining like a beautiful blue gem against the scenic backdrop. Blue Curacao liqueur meeting vodka, homemade vanilla passion puree and coconut froth stirred up a sweet and sourish concoction, reaching a unanimous agreement that it was one of the best (and prettiest) cocktail savoured here.

The Lomi-Lomi Salmon ($16) started off with a bang, satisfying those hunger-pangs of ours. With their bite-sized portion which I simply lifted up and swallowed as a whole, the softness of the confit Norwegian Salmon marrying tomatoes and sweet Maui onions encased in a tartlet shell got me there. For an added indulgence, top up $4 for flying fish roe or caviar.

I simply couldn’t get enough of poke bowls. So when this arrived to the table, looking as typical as healthy food should be, I knew I am a gone-case for such high-fibre/protein bowls.

Despite its hefty price tag, I would gladly fork out the extra dollars for the Ahi Poke Bowl ($20) given the freshness of the ingredients. Between mouthful of diced tuna marinated in your desired shoyu, kimchi or togarashi sauce, expect to find your chosen guacamole, pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds and pineapple cubes mixed within after you had placed your orders.

To be perfectly honest, the Kalua Pig Taco ($25) was left out in the open a tad too long for our photoshoots that I felt it wasn’t going to do the taco shells justice. The first bite in crushed any ominous thoughts, nonetheless.

The edges of the taco shells still retained the slight crispiness, while loaded with Roma tomato relish, creamy guacamole, shredded lettuce and melted cheddar cheese threatening to leak through the shells. It was a steady outburst of flavoursome fillings that easily won many hearts over.

Grilled Octopus ($18.50) was nothing short of tenderness and juiciness, for each baby octopus was perfectly grilled to the right temperature without losing their moisture.

A different rendition from the usual burger was this Loco Moco’s ($28), featuring a bun-less open-faced ‘burger’ of 150g Wagyu beef patty lying on a bed of Japanese koshihikari white rice. The rice got its fragrance from the addition of sesame seeds and seaweed, with a touch of nutty and earthy taste to it.

Egg lovers would rejoice at the panko crusted egg to be sliced apart for the much-awaited golden river cascading down beef and rice.

A sweet affair to greet those with an extra space for desserts. That said, it is always recommended to handle a few more calories worth every fat cells living for. Haupia Sphere ($22) certainly shook awake the child side of me at the sight of a delicate fall of the hot chocolate sauce over a chocolate sphere, which elegantly melted away the top part to engulf the treasures within.

Layered with coconut Chantilly cream, desiccated coconut sponge cake, nata de coco and vanilla ice cream, each scoop was an orgasm bite with the Valrhona chocolate seeping through my tongue as I chewed through the beautiful mess.

With a plethora of dishes for your selection and given the cosy environment to be in, Ola Beach Club is the perfect sanctuary for those who wants a romantic meal by the sea or an intimate feasting indoors.
