Naganuma Ice 100% Raw Milk Hokkaido Soft Serve & Gelato and torched Creme Brulee cone is in Singapore

With three outlets in Japan and snaking queue (averaging 45 minutes or so I heard), the popular Hokkaido Soft Serve brand, Naganuma Ice, is in Singapore now. Slated to open on 1st December 2018 (TBC), Naganuma ice will be serving 6 types of soft serve and 12 gelato flavours in a humble corner of Carlton City Hotel in Tanjong Pagar.

Naganuma Ice is also just a stone’s throw away from Tanjong Pagar MRT. Amidst competition from the other ice cream kiosks all around the vicinity, Naganuma Ice stands out for its 100% Hokkaido raw milk soft serve and gelato. It’s different from ice cream made using fresh milk, being more beneficial and good for those who are lactose intolerant.

Good thing is that the soft serve and gelato are all imported straight from Japan and the exact same flavours are being sold in Singapore too! Exclusive to Singapore though, are the addition of the Soft Serve Parfait $8.50 and Creme Brulee Soft Serve $8 which is a must-try.

Fret not if you are dying to try this, Naganuma Ice will be having a pop-up store from 23 Nov to 6 Dec at Isetan Scotts basement 1 supermarket, from 10am to 8:30pm!

Creme Brulee Soft Serve will be available at $6 (U.P. $8)  from 1 – 6 December 2018 at Carlton City Hotel!
Do try the creme brulee served in a cone, flame-torched before your eyes. I liked that it wasn’t that sweet and the caramelised sugar was likened a thin piece of film at the surface. Dig in and you would find that it’s rather custard-y smooth, not very eggy nor sugary.

As for the gelato, the flavours include Yame Matcha, Fresh Milk, Double Cheese, Strawberry Milk, Yubari Melon, Mango Yogurt, Haskap Yogurt, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, Banana, Azuki Beans and Vanilla.

I have to say that the favours are really on point, especially the Yubari Melon which tasted like the actual fruit. Strawberry Milk strongly reminded us of Strawberry Hello Panda while the Banana had banana pulp swirled within. The Chocolate was like a rich Belgium chocolate with bits of chocolate shavings too.

The Yubari Melon was one of my favourites and it’s hard to choose between this and the Yame Matcha. I daresay this is one of the best Matcha gelato I have had in Singapore so far. It’s rich, intense and bitter, and you could tell by the bold shade of green as compared to the other lighter-looking ones.

Don’t get me wrong but I have tasted good ones too but they are either hauled as a seasonal flavour or appeared only during events. At Naganuma Ice, you can get it anytime you want.

Pricing-wise, the gelato is selling at $5.50 for a single flavour cup and $6.50 for double flavour cup. The Yame Matcha, on the other hand, warrants a premium price of $7.50 for a single flavour cup and $6.50 for double flavour (+ another regular flavour) cup. Add on $0.50 for a cone.

Soft Serve goes at $6 per cup and $6.50 per cone and you can look out for flavours like the Rich Milk, Yubari Melon, Red Wine (w/o alcohol), Ebisu Pumpkin, Corn and Matcha.

The Ebisu Pumpkin is really interesting, earthy yet light and seemingly-savoury. Red Wine tasted more like grapes and even children can eat it because it doesn’t contain alcohol!

Note that there will be three rotating flavours during the pop-up event at Isetan Scotts.
