Lady M unveils New Seasonal Cakes, Vegan Chocolate Tarts & Tea Pairing Menu

Lady M is an elegant cafe stowed away in the quiet South Beach square – it is not easy to spot with the leafy sticker decals lining the outside of the shop, but yes, it’s that shop. Inside, we’re greeted by a pretty chandelier and graceful, ergonomic chairs. We love the space!

Lady M, the renowned cake and chocolate confectionary, has just released a new seasonal menu that prides itself on its crepe cakes and popular cakes of time’s past. It’s also got a new tea collection by Monogram, which introduces the idea of tea layering – a relatively novel idea to most of us!

As of 1 December 2018, they’ve launched a whole plethora of new items worth trying out, including an all-new and never-before-done vegan confectionary, the Vegan Chocolate Tart ($11.80)!

This gluten-free vegan tart is really unique. We loved the tart’s base, which resembled strongly the baked flour in tutu kuehs (not remotely kidding!). The rich vegan dark chocolate ganache topped with a line of chocolate nibs delivered a delightful texture party in each bite and a not-so-sweet winning combination overall! It may look like a small portion, but trust us, it’s hearty alright!

We tried the Yuzu Cheesecake ($9.50/slice) and were impressed by the texture of the cheesecake. It was light, and everything but dense. The biscuit base was also not too hard and was light and crunchy with the right amount of crumbly. The yuzu taste wasn’t too overpowering either. This is easily one of our favourites!

We also had to try the Rose Mille Crêpe ($9.50/slice). It’s Lady M’s most endearing cake and used to be found only in the Scotts Square branch. Now, it’s available islandwide! The rose flavour is ‘graciously light’ and we love the rose petals atop the painstakingly handmade crêpes, which is layered with rose-flavoured pastry cream and garnished with sweet rose jelly.

Yup, this one lives up to its reputation. The subtle rose flavours accompanied by “miles” of crepe sandwiched with even more light rose cream was a refreshing, pleasant treat indeed.

Next, we tried the Creme de la Rose ($7.50) with Soy Milk (additional $1.00), which is a coffee. When it arrived, we were awed by its prettiness! Unfortunately, we feel that soy milk doesn’t go well with the rose syrup at the bottom when stirred in. The drink was rather sweet too.

An exciting new line of tea by Monogram is introduced to Lady M diners, so it’s time to pair your cakes with delicious teas! We were recommended the Rose of Ariana (caffeine-free), along with our Rose Mille Crêpe. The tea is the sublime powdery aroma of Ispahan Rose (reminiscent of fresh cut flowers).

They were right about this pairing. These two go well together indeed! The lightly-scented Ispahan rose tea allowed the Rose Mille Crêpe to blend with it pleasantly in taste. Each teapot is $7.00. You can also ‘layer’ your tea with another tea, for an additional $2.00 each.

We’re really impressed by the new collection of cakes and teas, and also by the gorgeous settings of Lady M South Beach branch. It’s quiet, cosy, and a great place to do work or have a chat with your friends!
