Kushikatsu Tanaka, Clarke Quay – Autumn Deep-fried Skewers & addictive Lotus Root Chips

Kushikatsu Tanaka has an astounding 263 outlets worldwide and it is not hard to see why they remain a popular destination to satisfy our cravings for deep-fried skewers.

This Autumn, get ready to welcome nine new seasonal dishes which comprise of the Kushikatsu, appetisers and drinks such as the Yellow Plum Sour $9.80 and Black Pepper Highball $6.80, available from 15 October to Mid-December 2019.

Starring the Buta Nira Maki Kushikatsu $1.80, Mochi Bacon Kushikatsu $2 and Torikawa Kushikatsu $2.50, these skewers are best savoured with a mug of cold beer.

Deep-fried in Kushikatsu Tanaka’s signature panko batter, these Kushikatsu come in a crust that’s wondrously crunchy, and absorbs their signature dipping sauce well enough.

My favourite is the Buta Nira Maki Kushikatsu which resembles a gyoza filled with chives and sliced pork. While the crust is crispy, the inside remains juicy.

Some lighter bites include the Kabocha (pumpkin) Croquette $5, Dashimaki Tamago $5 (which is both sweet and fluffy), Surume Ika Butter Yaki $8 and Renkon (lotus root) Chips $7 (that is super crispy and addictive).

The heartier seasonal dish amongst all is the Bacon & Mushroom Wafu Pasta $10 tossed generously with sliced bacon and mushrooms in dashi and soy sauce.

From the a la carte menu, the Chiritori Nabe (with a choice of beef or pork slices over a bed of beansprouts) and DIY Takoyaki ($10 for nine pieces) come recommended too.

There is even a menu that teaches diners how to cook their own takoyaki! Definitely makes a fun experience.
