KFC Zero Chicken Burger is meatless but not vegan nor vegetarian – An alternative to your fried chicken?

KFC’s newest creation – Zero Chicken Burger – has created quite a buzz since its launch on 13 January 2021.

With the rising trend of fast food chains introducing meat-alternative products into their menu, KFC, known for its signature finger lickin’ good fried chicken, is finally on the bandwagon.

Singaporeans will be the first in Southeast Asia to try this new item. The burger is 100% flavour with 0% meat, and the meat-free patty is made from Colonel’s coveted Original Recipe of 11 herbs and spices, which makes it as flavourful as their usual fried chicken.

Interestingly, the zero chicken patty also tastes remarkably like real chicken meat and the texture is almost similar.

Each order would come with fresh lettuce, sliced cheese, BBQ sauce, and mayonnaise in the burger.

On the whole, the Zero Chicken Burger might be meatless, but it’s not vegan nor vegetarian. It’s an interesting move to make a non-chicken product taste like chicken, but I am not entirely sure of its target audience for a brand where fried chicken is the mainstay.

You can get the Zero Chicken Burger at an a la carte price of $6.55 or as a set meal from $8.65 for dine-in, takeaway and KFC Delivery at all restaurants except Singapore Polytechnic and Singapore Zoo.
