IronSupperClub reopens in Potong Pasir – Christmas Sets with Grilled Char Siew Turkey Breast, Ngoh Hiang & Calamari

IronSupperClub used to be located in Outram Park but have since moved to 9 Jalan Wangi, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from Potong Pasir MRT station. It may not be the easiest place to get to, but it’s actually worth the travelling – you’ll see.

It’s got an alfresco dining area outside, but we found ourselves swatting some pesky flies, so we decided to head indoors instead and were welcomed with the festive decorations around.

IronSupperClub is known for their donburi bowls and interesting bites like the Beer Battered Cheese Fritters ($8.90) and Crispy Crackling Pork ($8.90). But hold your horses! It’s the festive season, so we are going to try out the Christmas highlights which consist of seven specialty dishes!

The first dish we had was the Singapore Meat Roll “Ngoh Hiang” ($8.90), which is made of minced Bulan Pork and Cilantro Chili sauce served with Asian Salad. This one was actually my favourite for the night.

I’ve never tasted a more tasty ngoh hiang, which was paired superbly with cilantro chili sauce. The chili sauce was so good that I felt it could go well with anything – even the calamari rings! The Asian salad’s an interesting one, too. It’s zesty and fresh, and a refreshing pairing to the fried Ngoh Hiang!

We tried the Calamari ($12.90) next. This dish is a small platter of fresh calamari served with home-made tartar sauce and lime. For this dish, we thought that the rings were slightly too big, with a chewy texture. It’s not easy to find well-cooked calamari rings with the perfect combination of “chewiness” and batter-taste. We appreciate that the rings were lightly battered, though. The homemade tartar sauce was great – not too sour or too sweet.

The Festive Clam Chowder is only available from the 17th to 24th of December 2018. If you’re a fan of clam chowder, this dish will win you over. It’s not lumpy or sandy – which is a common worry for chowders! Don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance. It’s actually smooth, rich, tasty, and contains an adequate amount of clams!

The Iberico Sparerib ($43.90) grabs our attention right off the bat with its huge, flat-shaped ribs sticking out like a wild thing from a Texan kitchen. The Iberico meat was flavourful and generously coated with the House’s BBQ Sauce. Though the meat was hefty in size, the amount of fat that was in the Iberico was too much for us.

We tried the Grilled Char Siew Turkey Breast with Chestnut Stuffing next, which is also a festive food item that will only be available from 17th to 24th of December 2018. This one really impressed us.

It doesn’t look like anything special when you first lay eyes on it, but surprise, surprise! What moist and juicy turkey breast meat! Very tender and succulent, with a homemade cranberry sauce with grilled char siew to go with it – East meets West at its finest. The crispy fries and Asian salad on the side don’t disappoint, either! It’s another one of our favourable dishes.

Lastly, we were served the Chendol Pudding ($6.90). It contains chendol jelly, coconut pudding, red bean, and gula melaka. Get the liquified gula melaka out of the squeeze tube and then swoosh it generously over the pudding.

Our meal wouldn’t be quite complete without a good ‘ol drink accompanying these dishes. This is the Fun Drinks Asam Boi Sour Plum ($6.90), which looks like one of the best chemistry experiments I’ve ever tried doing. Beakers, test-tubes and little containers.

First, we squeezed the lime, then poured the sour plum juice into the beaker, then emptied out yellow and red holders into this. This is a drink-dessert, definitely! We love it!
