Hai Chi Jia Suan La Fen Instant Mala Noodles – Spicy, Sour Soup with Crunchy Peanuts – Nice or not?

I love a good bowl of hot and sour noodle and upon seeing Hai Chi Jia’s Suan La Fen Instant Mala Noodles 嗨吃家酸辣粉 making a storm in recent news, I know I gotta try it.

I found this in Giant Supermarket retailing at $3.30, easily recognisable by its quirky Chinese characters and illustrations sprawled across the brown paper cup.

Within the cup, you can find several mini packs of ingredients to be added to the sweet potato noodle. There’s the sauce, seasoning, vinegar, sesame oil, dehydrated vegetables (cut beans, carrot, bok choy, sesame and spring onions) and crunchy Mala peanuts.

After adding hot water to the ingredients and noodles, cover the cup with the lid and wait for around five minutes before its ready to be served!

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the noodle. It was smooth, slightly chewy and went really well with the soup. The ingredients were good enough for the whole cup (though they didn’t seem like it initially) and the peanuts gave life to the meal with its ultra crunchy texture.

The spiciness, on the other hand, was a slight disappointment. It wasn’t as fiery as I had expected, though it had the numbing sourness to it.

Overall, Hai Chi Jia’s Suan La Fen Instant Mala Noodles is flavourful and a diversion from the usual instant noodle out there. Nonetheless, I got very thirsty just from one cup of this. Not sure I would purchase again.

You can find this available at online platforms, e.g. Lazada, Shopee, Qoo10 and Ezbuy, and major leading supermarkets, e.g. Fairprice and Giant.
