人气90台湾烧烤杏鲍菇KSL夜市 Popular Grilled King Oyster Mushroom at KSL Night Market

Every Monday night from 5PM to 11PM, the street beside KSL City Mall would be bustling with activities. Yes, it’s the weekly night market filled mostly with tons of food vendors.

One of the popular stalls having a huge crowd with never-ending queue was this one selling Taiwanese grilled king oyster mushrooms. It was fortunate that the stall was directly opposite KSL entrance, a prime location that was also easy to locate. There is little information online whether they move around from location to location, but you can check their website for updates!

At one point in time, two to three staffs could be seen grilling these huge palm-sized mushrooms tirelessly. It was a long wait for my turn because it took some time for the plump mushrooms to be fully cooked.

When the mushrooms were finally grilled till charred, they underwent a series of pokes and slices, probably to check if they were cooked thoroughly, before being deftly skinned apart to remove the blackened areas and then chopped into chunky cubes.

Each portion they served goes by the weight. I got the small ala carte portion (about 20 pieces). They were then drizzled in their special sauce and sprinkled with your chosen toppings/flavours, namely the wasabi, 7-spice, salt and pepper, lemon, seaweed, black pepper, curry and rose.

The surface of the mushrooms in contact with the grill was a tad tough/chewy, but inside it was unexpectedly juicy and meaty. The sauce was rich and flavourful. I think I would like it with less of the black sauce.

Look at all these chubby king oyster mushrooms!

They are called 杏鲍菇 in Mandarin and their names could be heard shouted over the grills whenever you walked by.
