Flipper’s, Popular Japanese Soufflé Pancake Cafe, opens at Singapore Takashimaya

Flipper’s, the popular pancake brand from Japan, has finally opened its door in Singapore, at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.

Their signature Kiseki Pancake is hailed as one of the fluffiest pancake with melt-in-the-mouth texture. Also known as soufflé pancake, they come in stacks of two or three and are available in six varieties.

There is the original Kiseki pancake $16.80 and other flavours like Matcha Azuki $19.80, Fresh Fruits $21.80, Hazelnut Chocolate $21.80 and Millennial Strawberry $20.80. The only savoury soufflé pancake is the Egg Benedict $22.80 which I was almost tempted to order too!

Menu

I had the Matcha Azuki which comprises of three fluffy-looking pancakes, a dollop of matcha cream, whipped cream, Azuki and sprinkles of Hokkaido Kinako powder. The matcha cream is really smooth and has a bitterness to it. I like that it balanced very well with the sweet red bean paste, neither overpowering another. The pancakes, however, were not as ‘Fuwa Fuwa’ as I had expected. Having seen many great reviews about the texture of the pancakes, I was quite disappointed that it wasn’t as airy/pillow-soft. The exterior was quite dry. The inside was okay but got drier after a while. The toppings ended up being the saving grace.

There was a short queue in the afternoon which fortunately, moved fast. The pancake took about thirty minutes to arrive after order.
