Meanwhile, indulge in signatures like the internationally acclaimed Soup Dumplings and Crispy Golden Prawn Pancake loved by the young and old.

This Chinese New Year, Din Tai Fung has also launched their limited edition Taiwan Pineapple Cakes and Din Tai Fung Fragrant Chilli Sauce. Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yu Sheng 发财鱼生 will be available in all Din Tai Fung outlets in Singapore from from 22 January to 4 March 2018. It comes in two sizes:

Standard (serves 2 to 3) – $32.80

Deluxe (serves 4 to 6) – $48.80

Before we start to toss, the staff would say the auspicious words as he/she pours in the various ingredients into a large plate. The Yu Sheng ingredients consist of white radish, carrots, crispy yam strips, fresh pomelo pulp and Tianjin roasted chestnuts, followed by Norwegian smoked salmon and drizzled with a homemade sweet and tangy plum sauce.

For an extra flavour and crunch, diners can top up for Fried Salmon Skin ($4.80 per serving), and Pine Nuts ($2.80 per serving). Recommended is the Smoked Unagi (freshwater eel) ($9.80 per serving) which is sweet and tender.

Citibank Cardholders Exclusive (T&C applies)

  • 10% off any purchase of Prosperity Yu Sheng
  • Complimentary Sliced Smoked Salmon Top-Up Voucher (6 slices worth $9.80) with a minimum spend of $981. (Top up for next redemption)

Available exclusively at Paragon Shopping Centre and Northpoint City, Din Tai Fung impresses with the Steamed Custard Bun ($2 each), filled with a sweet and savoury salted egg yolk custard that oozes into a golden pool.

Perfectly in line with Chinese New Year, each Steamed Custard Bun is stamped with a golden ‘福’ character, that signifies prosperity and fortune to the diners.

At Din Tai Fung, there is no leaving the restaurant without their highly coveted soup dumplings aka Xiao Long Bao.

The Steamed Truffle and Pork Dumpling would send you to cloud’s nine and leave you craving for more.

Beyond the exquisite (minimum) 18 folds of the dumpling skin lies the juicy minced pork ball with an addition of truffles that may well pamper your tastebud further.

As a Taiwanese restaurant, expect a series of appetizers to start your meal with.

Cucumber dressed with Garlic and Chilli Oil brings about an explosion of flavours and textures, being crunchy, sweet, spicy and bitter.

The Oriental Salad in Special Vinegar Dressing is not to be missed. Served chill, they are tasty and addictive.

I am not particularly a big fan of black fungus but the Black Fungus with Ginger Strips and Vinegar Dressing from Din Tai Fung is exceptionally delicious. The black fungus is surprisingly not so chewy and has a crunch to it. As for the dressing, it scores point for being well-balanced in sweetness and savoury.

Moving on to snacks, the Crispy Golden Prawn Pancake is well-liked amongst us. They are cut into thin strips and fried. The best part is that while the outside is crispy, the interior remains really juicy.

The same goes to the Yam Paste wrapped in Crispy Spring Roll where the yam within is moist and smooth. The taste could be one-dimensional after a while. But if you love yam, you might enjoy this.

One of my favourite items is the Deep-fried Handmade Tofu with Water Chestnuts and Mushrooms. The fillings are generous and with each bite, I can taste the crunchy water chestnut mixed in the soft tofu.

Overall, I like how Din Tai Fung manages their fried dishes, ensuring the juiciness of the fillings while the coating remains crispy.

Fried Rice with Shrimp and Eggs tastes splendid with the wok-hei and eggy aromas. It is also one of my mum’s beloved Din Tai Fung dish.

Available exclusively at Paragon Shopping Centre, Junction 8 and Northpoint City from 29 January to 28 February 2018, the Steamed Layered Red Date Cake 棗泥糕 is made using premium dates and undergoes a laborious process to create the flavour and texture. It is sticky, chewy and filled with the natural sweetness of the red dates. Great for sharing among 6 to 8 pax.
