Crystal Jade Cute Dim Sum Making Class X Foodpanda Collaboration

During a recent event invited by Foodpanda and hosted by Crystal Jade Kitchen at Great World City, we were taught how to make some dim sum, specifically cute Panda and Rooster buns!

Held in a private room, we gathered around one of the senior chef for a live demonstration.

Cute Panda Buns

Ha! I thought so long as the elements that made up a panda’s features were met, any panda buns would look like a panda. Have a look at the mini panda buns we had meticulously rolled, cut, squeezed and poked. And the results were two rows of strikingly different panda looks. Guess which is mine (answer below)?

So how it started was the chef kneaded the dough and cut it into pieces that each weighed 30 grams.

Each small pieces were then rolled into a flat round disk.

A ball-shaped purple potato was inserted as the bun’s filling.

Then the edges of the dough was folded inwards to cover the purple potato fillings and rolled to create a smooth ball.

Using squid-ink infused dough, the panda’s ears, eyes and mouth were being pinched out and stuck on using egg white. And it was done, Ta-dah! Looks simple??

And mine turned out like this… 😂😂 Maybe not as cute as Foodpanda’s panda logo but it’s not that bad la.

Perhaps I should have made the smile longer ^____^

Mini Rooster Buns with Crown

Next up, the chef demonstrated how to make the rooster buns!

Some orange colouring was added to the dough and kneaded evenly.

Then the orange mixture was flattened and cut with a cutter to form the shape of a crown. The beak of the rooster was pinched out from the mixture.

After the buns had have been steamed, they possessed a pastel yellow tone.

The crown and beak which were already done, were then stuck onto the bun using egg white.

After being steamed for a short while the second time, the rooster bun was now ready to be eaten!

And here’s a selfie of my cute rooster bun! At least it looked decent ^^>

I also attempted to make a bear and tortoise. It was so fun making the buns and giving each one a different look!
