Crab Corner And Heavenly Duck House in Joo Koon, Ulu West of Singapore

Who would have expected a seafood restaurant to be nestled within the compounds of a Fairprice hub and even more so in Joo Koon. Speaking of which, the west side of Singapore has always been rather quiet in the food scene. But who knows… a little venture to this ulu part of Singapore has led to a hidden gem being unearthed.

Founded in 2014 by crab-loving owners, Crab Corner 蟹天王 dedicates itself to serving fresh and tasty crabs dishes to diners. Signatures include the Black Pepper Crab 秘制黑胡椒螃蟹 and Claypot Curry Fish Head 砂煲咖哩鱼头.

Following a recent makeover of the restaurant, Crab Corner is now sharing a space with sister restaurant, Heavenly Duck House 天王鸭. With a focus on speciality meats, diners can now expect more varieties from the Hong Kong roasts and dim sum when they dine here.

Claypot Chilli Crab 砂煲辣椒螃蟹 Seasonal Price

Bearing the namesake of Crab Corner, one would expect crabs to be their expertise.

We had the Claypot Chilli Crab featuring two crabs drenched in a semi-thick layer of sweet and savoury chilli sauce.

Each bite was rewarded with the taste of the sweet crustacean’s crab meats which came off their shells easily. Don’t forget to order a basket of mantou to mop up every morsel of the delicious sauce too.

From the Heavenly Duck House menu, therein boasts a list of roast meats, noodles dishes and dim sum.

Four Heavenly Kings Platter 天王四拼

Can’t decide which meats to get? The Four Heavenly Kings Platter will surely satisfy your cravings.

The sharing platter is good for 6 to 9 pax, bearing the Heavenly Duck Signatures such as the Crispy Roasted Pork, Barbequed Pork, Soy Sauce Chicken and Crispy Roasted Duck.

Each meat has their own distinct flavours. I especially loved the Crispy Duck for its crispy skin and tenderness. The Roasted Pork was a crowd-favourite too with a nice layering of fats to meat.

Appetizer Pork Ribs with Special Sauce 开胃排骨 $16 (s) $22 (m) $26 (l)

I had high hopes for this plate of pork ribs and it didn’t disappoint. The meats were fall-of-the-bones tender and glazed in their homemade special sauce that tasted sweet with the mild fragrance of the sesame seeds sprinkled on top.

Golden Salad Prawn (de-shelled) 黄金虾球 $18 (s) $24  (m) $28 (l)

Not particularly a huge fan of prawns, but the prawns served were huge and crunchy. The sauce was slightly sweet and sticky; and addictive enough to keep you popping one prawn after another into your mouth.

Stir Fried Mushroom Fish Maw with Broccoli 厚菇鱼鳔西兰花 $10.80 (s) $15.80 (m) $18.80 (l)

With all the hearty dishes above, we can go easy on the vegetables. My eyes lit up at the sight of broccoli and glad to say, these were cooked to the perfect texture, not too hard nor mushy. It was a beautiful dish with the glisten of what seemed like oyster sauce generously coating the ingredients.

Lemongrass Jelly 香茅爱玉果冻 $3.80

Desserts was light and refreshing with the homemade Lemongrass Jelly and Nata de Coco. Squeezed in a bit of lime and the overall sweet and sourish taste cleansed the palate well.
