Chalerm Thai – New Thai Restaurant at Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski Hotel

Named after Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre in Bangkok, Thailand, Chalerm Thai is the latest Asian addition to Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski. With a tasteful interior characterised by wood furnishings and rich colours, Chalerm Thai exudes a modern meets the traditional type of charm that is present in its food.

Boasting the best flavours of Thai cuisine, Chalerm Thai’s menu comprises plenty of appetizers, side dishes, and main courses that encapsulate the bold, fiery nature of the Land of a Thousand Smiles. The kitchen is headed by Chef Roy Ng, who has over a decade’s experience of whipping up Thai cuisine under his belt. His dedication to his craft has won him recognition from the Royal Thai Embassy, who awarded him the Thai Select Award.

For starters, you can’t go wrong with a simple, yet delicious Yum Pan Boong Krob ($8) – morning glory that has been deep-fried to a crisp. While nondescript and plain-looking, these bite-sized snacks are great to munch on while waiting for your main course, along with the fiery chilli dip it is served with.

Thai food lovers may find familiar ground with the comforting Tom Yum Foong ($15), which boasts a steaming bowl of hot, sour, and spicy broth packed with wholesome seafood to the brim. Enjoy the explosion of flavours from the soup, coupled with the sweetness of the prawns, fish, clams, mussels, and squid that is added to each bowl.

Chalerm Thai’s tribute to Thai cuisine continues with the Phan Thai Kung ($14), whose silky rice noodles are wok-fried to smoky perfection.

The Khao Phan Sappoarod ($14) is tastefully plated with two succulent prawns atop yellow-tinged rice grains studded with fresh pineapple, cashew nuts, raisins, and shrimp floss.

Partake in Thailand’s grilled meats with the Kor Moo Yang ($18). The grilled marinated pork neck yields a delightful texture with every bite, with a smokiness that envelopes your tastebuds. Dipping each cut into the spicy lime sauce elevates it into an addictive indulgence, fit for the most ardent of carnivores.

End your gastronomic foray with Chaletm Thai’s selection of desserts, which includes traditional Kao Teow Muang ($10) and Thai Tub Tim Krob ($8).
