Birds Of A Feather: Sichuan-inspired Western Cuisine, Dining In Nature

Birds of a Feather, an all-day dining cafe and bar, has been on my go-to list for ages and my recent visit was one filled with no regrets!

Serving contemporary western food with influences of Sichuan, expect an asian twist to the dishes ordered while marvelling at the beautiful hardwares each dish is being served on. I would love to have them at home for my own cooking.

As for the interior of the restaurant, it is breathtakingly beautiful. I feel as if I have stepped into lush greeneries with birds soaring through the clouds. And we even managed to snag a seat near the little garden. Dining experience just got better.

Crispy Pork Trotter in a Bag (SGD 12)

Five chunky pieces of crispy pork trotters are served with a paper bag of chilli flakes. Shake the pork inside evenly and what you get is little bits of spices in between each mouthful of meats. The melt-in-the-mouth fats is sinful as well.

Crispy Gyoza With Truffle Soy Vinaigrette (SGD 16)

The name says it all. I could hear the kiap kiap sound as I sank my teeth through the meats with dumpling skin pan fried to such crispiness. And enjoyed dipping it into the truffle-infused sauce while savouring the lingering aromas of the truffles 😍😍

Find the Chicken in the Chillis (SGD 16)

Imagine bite-sized popcorn chicken covered in a mess of Sichuan spices and dried chillis. Something spicy to kickstart the meal.

Fortune Skewer In Szechuan Pepper Broth (SGD 19)

Personally I really enjoyed this dish. It’s basically a handful of skewered food e.g. prawns, mushrooms, vegetables etc, dunk in soup, which you simply pick and eat.

The broth tasted somewhat between tom yum and chicken broth. It was rich with a satisfying oiliness; peppery with a numbing spiciness at the base of your throat 🌶🌶🌶.

Oriental Bolognaise (SGD 20)

One of my favourite dish goes to the angel hair pasta tossed with Sakura ebi, pork ragout, wilted kale and onsen egg. Each strand of noodle is coated in the flavoursome sauce while the ingredients make the dish shines even brighter, without losing their colours.

Would gladly give up a forest for this ☘️🌸

Even the water cup is so pretty-looking as well.
