Atmastel At South Beach: Casual Italian Restaurant With Great Pizzas

Love at first crust.

A recent trip to Atmastel, located at South Beach Avenue, had me rekindled my love for pizzas. Long have I savoured a good Italian pizza and Atmastel has nailed it right there.

This newfound gem, Atmastel, is a modern casual Italian restaurant helmed by Executive Chef Andrea Tarini with a 3-Michelin-Star background. As for the restaurant, it has an open kitchen concept where diners can watch the chefs at work, and a retail corner consisting of stellar cheese, ham and wines.

The menu showcases a list of both classic and interesting Italian dishes such as the Burrata and Date Tomatoes ($28), Black Ink Seafood Tagliolini ($34), and Zuppa di Pesca ($68).

There are 12 types of pizza combination to choose from with mouthwatering ones like the Black Truffle ($48) and Sicilian Anchovy ($28).

We had five types of pizzas that came highly recommended; 1 classic pizza and four special pizzas.

The Atmastel Dough

Made from 100% stone-milled flour, you can be assured of the nutritious value packed within the crust. Using artisanal biga, following a 24-hour ferment of the dough, the result is a crispy crust with a richer aromatic flavour.

Classics: Margherita $26

San Marzano Tomatoes , Mozzarella Fior di Latte, Grana Padano, Basil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

We started off with the pizza of the lightest taste. A layer of San Marzano tomatoes was spread upon the base with melted mozzarella. Considered one of the best type of tomatoes in the world, these tomatoes had lower acidity with a tinge of sweetness.

As for the pizza crust, it was lightly crisp on the outside with a half-doughy half-airy interior. On the whole, the bread to ingredients ratio was just right, allowing us to  perfectly savour the pizza.

Specials: San Daniele Dop $36

Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes, San Daniele DOP Ham, Rocket Salad, Shaved Grana Padano and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The uniqueness of this pizza lied in the San Daniele DOP Ham. Different from the usual prosciutto that are often saltier, the San Daniele DOP Ham was milder and sweeter due to its processing method.

Seafood $38

San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Clams, Squids, Prawns, Garlic, Chilli Flakes and Parsley

The seafood pizza was more intense in flavour due to the tomato base and flavourful crustaceans on top. It was like eating a seafood marinara on a pizza crust. Yum.

Prosciutto & Asparagus $34

Mozzarella, Crunchy San Daniele Ham Chips, Asparagus, Broccoli Cream and Grana Padano

My favourite pizza of the day was surprisingly one topped with asparagus which I am hardly a huge fan of. Nonetheless, I was swept by the tastiness of the asparagus which was soft yet crunchy at the same time. It also formed a good balance with the savoury ham chips.

On a side note, the ingredients were neatly arranged such that each slice consisted of the same amount of variety. Very thoughtful.

Sausage & Potato $34

Mozzarella and Gorgonzola Cheese, Homemade Sausage, Purple Potatoes, Rocket Salad

Ever had purple potatoes on your pizza?

For those feeling adventurous, do try this pizza topped with two kinds of cheese and slices of purple potato.

Portuguese Egg Tart $4.20

We rounded off the meal with some puff pastry dusted with cinnamon powder. The top was flakey and sliced open to reveal a creamy egg custard. It was slightly on the sweeter side and thick in texture. If you can have this in an Italian restaurant, why not? 🙂

The food at Atmastel looks promising. Definitely worth a return trip, especially to have another go on the pizza again.

Currently, there is also a promotion of 1 for 1 pizzas all day, till 31st May 2017.
